The Life Begins at 40 service was established by NHS 24 in partnership with the Scottish Government as part of its commitment to introduce a programme of health checks for forty-year-olds. It encourages people to look after their own health by raising awareness of their lifestyle choices and providing information on prevention and early detection of illnesses and conditions that are more likely to affect them at this age, such as diabetes and heart disease.
When launched, people in Scotland will receive a letter on or around their 40th birthday inviting them to access the service through an interactive online questionnaire or by calling a helpline and speaking to an NHS 24 Health Information Advisor. The letter will include a unique username and password which will allow the user to access the service.
Following completion of the self assessment questionnaire, online or over the telephone, the user will be given health information tailored to their individual needs, along with relevant signposting to other sources of information on national and local services.
